The Columbia company name has an interesting and colorful connection to Connecticut's early history and transportation. "Columbia" was the name of a 19th century tall ship captained by John Rathbone of Mystic, Connecticut. The 1,051-ton ship represented a class of fast, sleek sailing ships known as Packets. These ships allowed the United States to capture much of the growing transatlantic passenger traffic. Owners Arthur Maurice and Barbara Silver have maintained these roots in the company's name. Columbia combines the traditions and excellence of the past with the innovation and technology of the present to create a new standard in the transportation of the future.

Founded in 1980 in an old white Quonset hangar at the Groton-New London Airport in Groton, CT, the Columbia brand provided aircraft maintenance and a variety of other aviation services. Columbia Aircraft Sales was launched in 1988. Today, Columbia Airlines represents a network of full-service FBOs offering comprehensive aircraft support to the general and corporate aviation communities. We are proud to be an authorized Daher distributor, providing Daher factory authorized sales and service on the East Coast from Maine to Virginia and Eastern Canada.

Embrace Technology. Columbia is committed to using new technologies to increase productivity and improve the customer service experience. Our avionics department reduced overall downtime and simplified the installation process by using a computer router to cut the panels internally. In 2020, we installed our own state-of-the-art paint booth in the sales/avionics hangar, eliminating the need to send parts out for repairs and painting. We aim to stay at the cutting edge of technology, equipping our workshop technicians with laptops and tablets and transitioning to a fully digital technology library.
We remain committed to focusing on improving quality at all of our food operators, including the use of Flight Bridge at these locations. The staff at KBHB, KRUT and Mystic Jet Center have developed a one-size-fits-all approach to customer service, ensuring that our customers are treated with the same level of professionalism regardless of their destination.

Columbia Air Services Inc. was founded in 1980 to provide aircraft maintenance and a variety of other aviation services at Groton-New London Airport in Groton, Connecticut. Since its association with Pratt & Whitney in 1984, the company has serviced thousands of turbine engines and is now recognized for its expertise in the PT-6 series turbine engines. FAA licensed technicians are factory trained to build and model leading turbine and piston aircraft. Columbia Aircraft Sales was founded in 1988 to meet the transient needs of general aviation owners and pilots in the region. The company offers aircraft and avionics demonstrations, insurance and financing assistance, market research and analysis, aircraft sales and acquisitions, aircraft valuations, transaction and registration services, and lifetime customer and product support. Columbia Aircraft Sales, Inc. was the Piper aircraft distributor and authorized distributor of the Daher TBM 940 and 910 aircraft in an extensive territory that included NY/NJ and New England, all of Eastern Canada and the Mid-Atlantic Covers up to VA.
Mystic Jet Center was founded in 2016 at KGON. Mystic Jet Center provides full family-friendly air transportation services to the general aviation community. In addition to offering quality jet fuel products, lavatory and de-icing services, MJC also offers beautiful flight and crew design lounges, 5-star concierge services, on-demand heated hangars and much more to make us even better.
Columbia's Air facilities in scenic Rutland, VT include a total of four hangars with approximately 40,000 square feet of space and 4,000 square feet of office space. This FBO serves a commuter airline and specializes in cold weather operations. Columbia Aircraft Sales, Inc. has recently established a regional sales office in Rutland representing Piper and Daher, specializing in all makes and models of piston aircraft.

Located in the heart of Maine Columbia's “Down East” facility, Bar Harbor is the FBO, a popular full-service destination, especially during the summer months. This facility includes a 6,400 square meter and 3,200 square meter storage hangar; a 5,880 square meter maintenance hangar and a 3,844 square meter office and shop. Columbia Air Services-BHB, LLC is also a factory authorized repair center for the following aircraft manufacturers; Piper Aircraft, Cirrus Aircraft and Cub Crafters. (Groton, CT - June 19, 2020) We understand that reducing exposure to COVID-19 is a major concern for many of our customers. In response, Columbia offers no-touch demonstrations of new and used aircraft at our Groton, CT (KGON) facility.
No-touch demonstrations are by appointment only and are designed to provide a safe and private opportunity to learn about the aircraft we offer.
The aircraft requested to be viewed will be locked in a hangar with controlled access after its internal surfaces have been disinfected. Masks, gloves and hand sanitizer will be provided, and non-essential workers will be restricted from entering the hangar during the visit.
